Humanity is One and I am One with All.
I seek to love not hate,
I seek to serve and not exact due service.
I seek to heal, not hurt.

Let pain bring due reward of Light and Love.
Let the Soul control the outer form,
And life and all events,
And bring to light the Love
that underlies the happenings of the time.

Let vision come, and insight.
Let the future stand revealed.
Let inner union demonstrate
And outer cleavages be gone.

Let love prevail.
Let all people love.

THE FOUR FREEDOMS
<EOH 319-320>

January 6, 1941

In the future days, which we seek to make secure, we look forward to a world founded upon four essential human freedoms.

The first is freedom of speech and expression -everywhere in the world.

The second is freedom of every person to worship God in his own way -everywhere in the world.

The third is freedom from want -which, translated into world terms, means economic understandings which will secure to every nation a healthy peacetime life for its inhabitants- everywhere in the world.

The fourth is freedom from fear -which, translated into world terms, means a worldwide reduction of armaments to such a point and in such a thorough fashion that no nation will be in a position to commit an act of physical aggression against any neighbour- anywhere in the world.

Franklin D. Roosevelt

Let Light and Love and Power …
Fulfill the purpose of the Coming One.
The WILL to save is here.
The LOVE to carry forth the work is widely spread abroad.
The ACTIVE AID of all who know the truth is also here.
Come forth, O Mighty One, and blend these three.
Construct a great defending wall.
The rule of evil now must end.

The Center

TSR V, 746: True Democracy is as yet unknown; it awaits the time when an educated and enlightened public opinion will bring it to power; towards that spiritual event, mankind is hastening. The battle of Democracy will be fought out in the United States.

[NGSM] The battle of Democracy is no longer between left and right; it’s between the LOWER extremes and the HIGHER synthesis, the true “middle,” the CENTER.  In that battle, the modern disciple cannot remain indifferently neutral. -JB

TSR II, 676: The New Group of World Servers seeks to help in the restoration of World balance and peace through the activity-coordinated, definite, and applied—of this emerging group of people, who can constitute a third group or “middle party” (to borrow a phrase from the field of politics) between those who are fighting for, and those who are fighting against, any group, religious organisation, political affiliation or form of government.

In the center of the Will of God I stand.
Naught shall deflect my will from His.
I implement that will by love.
I turn towards the field of service.
I, the Triangle divine, work out that Will
Within the square, and serve my fellow men.

Atlanta Unit of Service contributions to the American Election Meditation Vigil chat:

More than 35 million early votes have been counted nationwide as of Monday — well more than the 21 million cast in the 2014 midterm elections.

EOH 448: The Hierarchy stands, no longer watching and waiting, but acting today with impelling wisdom and fixed decision in order to strengthen the hands of Their workers in every field of human activity (political, educational and religious) so that they may take right action and correctly influence human thinking. (March 1945)

1/3 DN 54-55: Great Britain is the custodian of the wisdom aspect of this second ray energy for the Aryan race; the United States will fulfil the same office for the world of the immediate future …

2/3 [embodying] the attractive cohesive aspect of the second ray …. and [demonstrating] it through wisdom and right government, based on true idealism and love..

3/3 … The United States represents the intuitive faculty, expressing itself as illumination, plus the power to fuse and blend.

1/2 DN 58: If the idealism of the United States of America can be illumined by the law of love and not by personality self-expression, then the pattern which underlies the structure of the States…

2/2 … may be seen in lines of light and we shall look for future racial light instead of the many separative national lines. At present it is the personality ray of the United States which controls.

EOH 85: In connection with the United States of America, Chicago is the solar plexus centre, whilst New York is the throat centre and Washington the head centre. The heart centre is Los Angeles.

POH 26: America is a great battleground for experiment along creative lines; … The fight between capital and labour will reach its climax in the United States

1/7: Vote to support the spiritual values of Men and Women of Goodwill. These are:
2/7: A Love of Truth – essential for a just, inclusive and progressive society.
3/7: A Sense of Justice – recognition of the rights and needs of all.
4/7: A Spirit of Cooperation – based on active goodwill and the principle of right human relationships.
5/7: A Sense of Personal Responsibility – for group, community, national and international affairs.
6/7: Serving the Common Good – through the sacrifice of selfishness. Only what is good for all is good for each one.
7/7: These are spiritual values, inspiring the conscience and the consciousness of those who serve to create a better way of life.

1/2 EOH 587: The intuition of the disciple is alert and active; the new ideas and the vital fresh concepts are foremost in his mind. He almost automatically…
2/2 …repudiates the reactionary and conservative thinking of the past and—without fanaticism and undue emphasis—he lives, talks and instructs along the new lines of right human relations.

RI 350:… evil and good are reverse aspects of the same one reality, and evil is that good which we should have left behind, passing on to greater and more inclusive good.

1/5 DN 11: Three of these streams of energy are working powerfully in the world at this time and two others are struggling for expression. Of these latter, one is struggling towards domination…

2/5: … and the other is struggling to hold on to that which it has so long controlled. This refers to the incoming seventh ray and the outgoing sixth ray.

3/5: They constitute, in their duality, the reactionary and the progressive forces which are seeking to govern human thought, to determine natural and human evolution…

4/5: …and to produce widely divergent civilisations and culture — one of which would be the perpetuation and crystallisation of that which now exists

5/5 …and the other would be so entirely new, as an outgrowth of the present world upheaval, that it is difficult for the average student to conceive of its nature.

1/3: DN 29: Suffice it to say that the sixth ray people are the reactionaries, the conservatives, the die-hards and the fanatics, who hold on to all that is of the past …

2/3: … and whose influence is potent to hinder the progress of humanity into the new age. … They provide, however, a needed balance …

3/3: … and are responsible for a steadying process which is much needed in the world at this time.

ENA:  It is difficult for modern man to conceive of a time when there will be no racial, national or separative religious consciousness present in human thinking. It was equally difficult for prehistoric man to conceive of a time when there would be national thinking and this is a good thing for us to bear in mind. The time when humanity will be able to think in universal terms still lies far ahead but the fact that we can speak of it, desire it and plan for it is surely the guarantee that it is not impossible. Humanity has always progressed from stage to stage of enlightenment and from glory to glory.

1/4 ENA 90: We are today on our way to a far better civilisation than the world has ever known and towards conditions which will ensure a much happier humanity …

2/4: … and which will see the end of national differences, of class distinctions … and which will ensure a fuller and richer life for everyone.

3/4: It will be obvious that very many decades must elapse before such a state of affairs will be actively present—but it will be decades and not centuries,

4/4: … if humanity can learn the lessons of war and if the reactionary and the conservative peoples in every nation can be prevented from swinging civilisation back on to the bad old lines.

1/6: But a beginning can immediately be made. Simplicity should be our watchword for it is simplicity which will kill our old materialistic way of living.

2/6: Cooperative goodwill is surely the first idea to be presented to the masses and taught in our schools, thereby guaranteeing the new and better civilisation.

3/6: Loving understanding, intelligently applied, should be the hallmark of the cultured and wiser groups,…

4/6: …plus effort on their part to relate the world of meaning to the world of outer efforts —for the benefit of the masses.

5/6: World Citizenship as an expression of both goodwill and understanding should be the goal of the enlightened everywhere and the hallmark of the spiritual man,

6/6: …and in these three, you have right relations established between education, religion and politics.-ENA 90-91

All the work being done now is definitely transitional work and therefore most difficult. It infers a bridging process between the old and the new, and would present almost insuperable difficulties were it not for the fact that the coming two generations will bring in those types of egos who are competent to deal with the problem. Upon this fact those of you who are concerned with the educational system and situation, and who are bewildered by the presented vision and by the task of approximating the cherished possibilities, must rest back with confidence. Clear thinking, much love and a sense of true compromise (note this phrase) will do much to lay the needed foundations and keep the door of the [Page 92] future wide open. A balancing process is going forward in this interim period, and to it the modern educator should pay due attention.

George Washington sitting in zazen meditation.

1/2: Lions’ Roar Magazine (6 NOV 2018) on Mindful Politics: If the Buddha had a political platform, it might go something like this:

2/2: “May all beings be free from suffering and the causes of suffering. May they all enjoy happiness and the fruits of happiness.”

This is not simply a spiritual aspiration. It is the ultimate goal of government. The debate over how to achieve it is called politics.

By the measure of suffering and happiness, this is the most important political moment of our lifetime. The very direction of democracy and society is in the balance, both in the U.S. and in countries around the world. We need every bit of strength, courage, skill, and compassion we can muster. We also need self-care, healing, and a sense of community and solidarity. Buddhism can help with all of these.

1/2: Stand Against Suffering: A Call to Action by Buddhist Teachers: Thirteen prominent teachers explain why Buddhists need to be be politically engaged

2/2: at this crucial time in the country’s history, in this statement published in Lion’s Roar magazine and co-signed by more than 140 Buddhist leaders.

“Buddhism does not align itself with any party or ideology. But when great suffering is at stake, Buddhists must take a stand against it, with loving-kindness, wisdom, calm minds, and courage.”

A “Rainbow Wave” over Capitol Hill at sunset today

5:25 pm EST: Early exit polls showing strong rebuke of current U.S. policies.

10:00 PM EST: After some initial disappointing results in Florida, the unchecked one-party rule of the ultraconservative rural white male nationalistic movement, driven by mass fear and xenophobia, supported by the evangelicals and the wealthy, was defeated by urban America in the U.S. Congress, spearheaded by women, resulting in a significant shift in political power.

1/2 TWM 634: There is no such thing as failure; there can only be loss of time…

2/2 The sense of time produces glamour and disappointment, whereas the work goes truly [Page 635] forward, and a lesson learnt by failure acts as a safeguard for the future.

There is a civil war  between rural and urban America in need of another Lincoln to heal the country, after definitely defeating what Master D.K. has called “the reactionary and the conservative peoples in every nation [attempting to] swing civilisation back on to the bad old lines.”

usa2018

Voter suppression and gerrymandering still limit the capacity of the 60% of the country that, according to the exit polls, oppose the agenda of the ultraconservative rural white male nationalistic movement.  Battleground-state Dems who opposed Supreme Court justice Kavanaugh were all defeated.

Significant inroads were made by moderate progressives in Red States while more radical progressives won in urban areas. There is still much work to do in finding a unifying vision of America for the Resistance to defeat the reactionary and the conservative M.A.G.A. movement attempting to swing the USA “back on to the bad old lines.”

NYT: Trump Backlash

Democrats harnessed voter fury to win control of the House and capture pivotal governorships, delivering a forceful rebuke of President Trump.

An array of diverse candidates — many of them women, first-time contenders or both — ended the Republican Party’s eight-year grip on the chamber.

But in an indication that the country’s political and cultural divisions may only be deepening, the Democratic gains did not extend to the Senate.

“Their loss of the House also served unmistakable notice on Republicans that the rules of political gravity still exist in the Trump era. What was effectively a referendum on Mr. Trump’s incendiary conduct and hard-right nationalism may make some of the party’s lawmakers uneasy about linking themselves to a president who ended the campaign showering audiences with a blizzard of mistruths, conspiracy theories and invective about immigrants.

“The Democrats’ broad gains in the House, and their capture of several powerful governorships, in many cases represented a vindication of the party’s more moderate wing. The candidates who delivered the House majority largely hailed from the political center, running on clean-government themes and promises of incremental improvement to the health care system rather than transformational social change.

“Yet the theory — embraced by hopeful liberals in states like Texas and Florida — that charismatic and unapologetically progressive leaders might transmute Republican bastions into purple political battlegrounds, proved largely fruitless. Though there were signs that demographic change was loosening Republicans’ grip on the Sun Belt, those changes did not arrive quickly enough for candidates like Mr. Gillum and Mr. O’Rourke. And the Democratic collapse in rural areas that began to plague their candidates under President Obama worsened Tuesday across much of the political map.”

CNNHouse Democrats ascendant, set to check Trump’s power

The opposite trends in the House and the Senate underscored a political and cultural gulf among diverse and affluent liberals living in big cities and their suburbs and the mostly, white, working class and rural conservative bloc of voters for whom Trump remains an iconic figure.

CNN: President Donald Trump demolished the “blue wall” in the Great Lakes region two years ago. On Tuesday night, Democrats rebuilt it.

The party’s candidates won races for governor and the Senate in the three states that delivered Trump the presidency — Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

The recipe for a Democratic comeback in the Great Lakes region was straightforward. Candidates largely ignored Trump. Instead, they focused on health care as well as bread-and-butter budget issues like funding for schools, roads and infrastructure.
